Job Description

The Leadership Institute Finance Department is seeking an entry-level Accountant to join our Accounting Team. As an Accountant 1, you will be joining LI’s dedicated, fun, and energetic team of professionals to help maintain critical accounting systems that allow the Leadership Institute to continue to fulfill its mission every day.

As an entry-level position, training will be a core part of your daily routine. In addition to trainings specifically for your role in Accounting, the Leadership Institute also provides a wide variety of regularly scheduled trainings that will serve to strengthen your career.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Process and organize:

  • Process Reports:
    • Intake and process staff expense reports, including -
      • Research for accuracy and identify expense discrepancies.
      • Work with staff to correct any identified deficiencies.
      • Organize and finalize reports for electronic filing/Scanning.
      • Monitor results.
    • Assist in the oversight of LI’s corporate credit card program.
      • Assist staff with credit card enrollments and problem solve credit card disputes.
    • Post transactions to Accounting Software.
  • Organize:
    • Prepare financial documents for scanning / filing and/or shredding.
    • Prepare and organize Accounting files.
    • Organize electronic file folders.
    • Prepare invoices or other records for processing.
    • Assist employees and vendors with accounting questions / procedures.
    • Organize and track various transaction activity using Excel.
  • Other Duties:
    • Makes bank deposits.
    • Prepare Accounting mail.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Leadership Institute is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1979 by its President, Morton C. Blackwell. LI provides training in campaigns, fundraising, grassroots organizing, youth politics, and media/communications. The Institute teaches conservatives of all ages how to succeed in politics, government, and the media.

The Institute offers 47 types of training schools, workshops, and seminars; a free employment placement service; and a national field program that trains conservative students to organize campus groups.

Since 1979, LI has trained more than 176,000 conservative activists, leaders, and students. The Institute's unique college campus network has grown to more than 1,700 conservative campus groups and newspapers.

Required Skills

  • Should possess some experience and/or training in accounting and financial operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Excel and other MS-Office Applications.
  • Must be good at organizing and time management.
  • Should have good judgement, planning skills and communication skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy.

Desired Skills

  • Trained to use Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Practical training or experience in Finance.
  • Accounting experience working with non-profits is preferable.
