Job Description

Campus Reform is looking for a Deputy Editor. The Deputy Editor will edit stories for publication on Campus Reform and provide guidance to ensure that Campus Correspondents continue to produce quality stories and develop the skills of promising student journalists.

 

The Deputy Editor will be expected to have strong writing skills, enthusiasm for following news and current events, and experience with objective journalism. Other desirable skills include video editing and experience with television interviews.

 

Campus Reform, a project of the Leadership Institute, is America's leading site for college news. As a watchdog to the nation's higher education system, Campus Reform exposes bias and abuse on the nation's college campuses. Our team of professional journalists works alongside student activists and student journalists to report on the conduct and misconduct of university administrators, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Editing articles from reporters and student Campus Correspondents
  • Reviewing tips and pitches to determine viability
  • Developing Campus Correspondents’ journalistic abilities
  • Other duties as necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • At least one year of newsroom experience writing and/or editing stories
  • Excellent news judgement, particularly on stories about liberal bias and abuse on campus
  • Managerial skills, ability to inspire students to find and write stories
  • Understanding of journalism practices and ethics
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to publicly represent the Leadership Institute and Campus Reform
