| The Web Editor, Nights, is responsible for editing Web content for Roll Call, providing guidance to reporters, and monitoring the Web for news developments. This editor also will be called upon from time to time to assist in other Roll Call editorial operations, including production of the print product. This editor will be on duty from approximately 4 pm until midnight Monday through Thursday, and during the day on Sundays, and will work closely with the night copy editor/web producer.
Job duties: Editing Web articles for RollCall.com, particularly breaking news. Assisting in other aspects of Roll Call’s operations as directed by supervisors. Coordinating coverage with reporters. Monitoring competitors and other information outlets. Writing stories occasionally as needed. All steps necessary to produce the nightly slide show, including uploading photos and writing captions. Directing “after hours” coverage of breaking news in coordination with reporters and other editors. Editing reporters’ articles. Choosing placement for stories on the Web. Deciding when and what types of email alerts to send.
Performance measures: Successful in daily production of news content/material. Successful and aggressive capture of breaking news. Successful in providing guidance to reporters and cooperating with editors on planning content. Successful in providing leadership and setting a positive tone for the newsroom.
