Description & Requirements

description of job opening

The Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions (AWED) seeks an experienced and dedicated volunteer (intern, retired, etc) to assist with leading the formulation, organization and initiation of a national political public relations plan. The PR project should educate audiences, shift public opinion, and bring about for policy changes.

AWED is an informal alliance of some 10,000 citizens, that are concerned how national (and state) energy and environmental policies are formulated. We are advocating that such technical matters be science-based — which is not the norm to date.

Despite having no outside financing, and having only a cursory PR plan in place, AWED has achieved considerable success. We are ready to go to the next level.

AWED now needs a focused, low-cost and yet comprehensive PR plan, potentially including message refinement, improving communication materials, coalition building, planning media relations, website maintenance, organizing press releases and conferences, conducting polling, contacting and educating interest groups and the public, and lobbying Congress. Availability to attend meetings in DC would be a plus.

We have decided to take on 2+ people to share this responsibility. This will enable this to be a part-time position. Additionally the volunteer can conduct the PR effort at home from a computer during flexible hours. Although the position is unpaid, it could serve as a springboard to other political opportunities, especially since AWED has attracted the attention of Congressional leaders.
